13 People die in a fuel tanker accident in Kisumu-Busia road.
Thirteen people have been killed and 11 others injured at Yala Sub-County Hospital in Gem Siaya County after a tank truck overturned from where they found fuel.
The incident happened around 9pm last night.
The fire started when someone opened a tank room to allow fuel to be released quickly before police arrived.
” The public took the opportunity to go to the petrol siphon when part of the tank was open. One resident, realizing that another room was locked and delayed them, opened it to allow them to shoot very quickly before police arrived. The process, however, erupted and exploded,” the OCPD said. Gem Mosera Chacha said.
According to Chacha, a truck carrying milk and the tank collided. In the process, the milk truck pulled off the road, which also caused the tanker to sway. The tanker fell on its side.
He said they were able to prevent the blaze with the help of Busia County fire trucks.
“In our county we could not get a fire truck, because it is in Nairobi for repairs according to government officials,” he noted.
The truck is still at the scene while the truck is at the Yala Sub-County Police Station.
