Uganda’s Peruth Chemutai is the gold medalist in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the Tokyo Olympics.

Chemutai gave a devastating kick to find American Courtney Frerichs in gold while Kenya’s Hvyin Kiyeng won bronze in the race.
The 9:01:45 Chemutai victory was also Uganda’s national record, and she was also the first woman from East Africa to win gold at the steeplechase Olympics since the event was added to the Beijing Summer Games program in 2008..
