Cristiano Ronaldo says Al Nassr will “keep believing until the end” after helping revive the club’s bid for the Saudi Pro League title.

The Portuguese striker, signed in December, scored a penalty in his side’s 2-0 win over Al Tai on Tuesday night as the second-placed side closed the gap on leaders Al Ittihad, who lost a two-goal lead in a 2-2 draw. . Al Hilal.

The result means Nassr is three points behind Ittihad with three rounds remaining.

Writing on Instagram after reviving Nassr’s hopes of winning Saudi Arabia’s first title in four years, Ronaldo said: “Important win tonight, three more games to come! We believe until the end!”

Ronaldo, 38, put Nassr ahead against Al Tai shortly after the second half, converting to take his tally to 13 goals in 14 league games.

Fellow striker Anderson Talisca then leveled the game with 10 minutes remaining to increase the pressure on Ittihad.

The Jeddah side, seeking a first league title in 14 years, took a 2-0 lead against Hilal in the ‘Saudi Clasico’ in Riyadh, with former Sharjah player Igor Coronado and Ahmed Bamsoud scoring in the first 30 minutes. .

However, reigning champions Hilal halved the lead before half-time when VAR confirmed – belatedly – that Musab Al Juwayr’s cross had gone over the Ittihad goal.

Then, in the 96th minute, VAR stepped in again and ruled that the ball back to Michael had crossed the line before defender Ahmed Hegazy pulled away, leaving Ittihad on the streets with two crucial points.

Nassr will be next in action on May 23, when they host third-placed Al Shabab, while Al Ittihad entertain bottom club Al Batin in Jeddah.
