Douglas Kirocho Kanja named new DIG Kenya Police

General Services Unit Commander Douglas Kirocho Kanja is the new Deputy Inspector General of the Kenya Police.

Kanja came out on top after talks with the National Police Commission last week.

He succeeds Edward Mbugua who retired from the service. Kanja, a career policeman, rose through the ranks in the GSU and took over as the commander of the support unit. He was appointed commander of GSU in 2018.




Acting DIG Abdallah Komesha was transferred to his DCI station and appointed head of the investigation office.

He succeeded Eliud Lagat who was appointed as the new commander of the GSU.

Kenya’s recently appointed Chief of Police Operations, Nyale Munga, has been transferred to Kiganjo Police Academy and appointed Commandant.

The new Chief Operating Officer of KPS is Ranson Lolmodoni.

The outgoing Commander of Kiganjo Bruno Shioso has been transferred and appointed as the Commander of the Kenya Coast Guard Service.

Kanja was the Chief of Police of Kilifi County for many years.

The GSU is the largest academic and operational unit of the police with a population of approximately 12,000.
