Machakos County police were searching for five armed robbers on Tuesday night who stole Equity Bank branch in the town of Matuu and stole weapons from security guards.

The security team, in response to an alarm, arrived shortly afterwards, but officers were turned away by bullets from inside the bank.
“For about 15 minutes there was a heated argument between our officers and the robbers who later managed to escape. One thief was shot but managed to escape,” Matuu Police Commander Mary Njoki said.
