Fellow defendants, former secretary general Richard Ekai, Haron Komen, Francis Paul and Patrick Kimathi Nkabu were acquitted by Judge Elizabeth Juma.

Former Sports Cabinet Secretary Hassan Wario and former Kenya National Olympic Committee (Nock) official Stephen Soi were convicted of corruption and harassment in office on Wednesday in connection with the 2016 Rio Olympic scandal.

Their co-accused, former secretary general Richard Ekai, Haron Komen, Francis Paul and Patrick Kimathi Nkabu, were acquitted by Judge Elizabeth Juma.

Wario and Soi will be detained at Gigiri Police Station awaiting sentencing and sentencing on Thursday.

Officials have been linked to a Sh88 million corruption scandal that rocked the Kenyan team in Brazil.

In his case, prosecutors claimed that officials from the Kenya National Olympic Committee (NOCK) and the Ministry of Sports were involved in planning and managing the Rio Olympics without proper management, resulting in the loss of public funds.

The prosecution accused Mr Wario of giving three people benefits by including them in the Rio mission.

The prosecution called 22 witnesses while Mr. Wario was placed in his defense and called seven witnesses to support
