Fact Check: Was Oparanya Facebook account hacked

Kenyans were brought to stun on the extremely early times of Monday, August 29, when a Facebook record of the active Kakamega lead representative, Wycliffe Ambetsa Oparanya, requested that his region occupants vote in favor of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) up-and-comer, Cleophas Malala, in the gubernatorial race.

Lead representative Oparanya is the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) agent party pioneer and has recently crusaded against Malala as the party has its applicant in the challenge.

The post was shared on his confirmed Facebook page with a photo of the UDA gubernatorial competitor with hashtags (#VoteCleophasWahunguMalala).

The active area supervisor has since hailed post as phony, expressing that his record was hacked by “specialists of destruction.”

Oparanya reveal his FB page is hacked

“This is to tell the overall population that my Facebook page has been hacked by specialists of destruction,” Oparanya expressed on his Twitter handle.

He added that he had advised the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) to begin testing something very similar.

“Disregard any post on my Facebook page as we anticipate DCI to deal with the matter and reestablish it.”

Endeavors by Sambazanews to contact the active province supervisor for a remark on the claimed hacking demonstrated purposeless as calls went unanswered.

As indicated by the Kenyan regulation, unapproved access comprises a wrongdoing under Section 14 of the Computer Misuse and Cybercrimes Act, 2018.

The punishment for the unapproved access upon conviction is a fine not surpassing Ksh5 million, detainment for the term not surpassing three years or both.

The law further expresses that unapproved access with the expectation to commit or work with commission of a further offense is an offense and upon conviction, brings about a fine not surpassing Ksh10 million, detainment for a term not surpassing 10 years or both.

The district is at present in a scaled down political race where previous Kakamega province Senator, Cleophas Malala, is going head to head with six different competitors among them his fundamental rival, Fernandez Barasa of ODM party.
