Father sues son and asks for 20% of his salary for upkeep.

One father filed a complaint against his son, alleging that he was living in poverty after sacrificing his age and investment in the man, before being abandoned in the village.

In documents submitted to the Kitale High Court, Gideon Kisira Cherowo told the court that his son was immersed in city life and left the old man to fend for himself.

A journalist who spoke to Kenyans.co.ke from Kitale explained that the 73-year-old wanted the court to order his son to pay him 20% of his monthly salary.

“Elder Cherowo defended himself saying he deserved better care after working hard to give him a better life,” a court reporter said.

Elder Cherowo complained that he sold his farm to educate his son to another level. He also gave him his share of the inheritance, a quarter of an acre of land, and blessed the son before his marriage.

Court documents added that the old man also paid his son’s dowry, which included an unknown amount of money, four cows and other items. The grieving 73-year-old man wants an interview to cover his commitment.

He explained that the boy had been employed by a government agency in Nairobi and was only receiving his salary, benefits, bonuses, insurance and was also in line to pay his retirement pension.

“I used all the resources I had to put him in a good position to support our family. I am asking for 20% of his salary to be paid as a father ”, asked the court Elder Mzee Cherowo.

The father of four added that the family is dependent on his son who allegedly severed ties with them after getting the job in the city. Efforts to settle the case out of court turned to Elder Cherowo, as the son could not be reached.

“I have tried many times over the years to get help from my son, but to no avail. She is the only one of my four children to have a paid job, ”Elder Cherowo told the court.

The elder opened the case himself and did not have a lawyer to represent him in court. He explained that the family could not afford the services of a lawyer.

However, he testified in court, the son’s younger brother. The brother told the court that his brother had abandoned them many years earlier.

He asked the court to listen to his father’s request as they used all their resources to educate the brother.

The family lives in a mud house in Birunda village, Saboti sub-county, Trans Nzoia county.

The child had not yet responded to the case during the media. The court had not yet set a date for the hearing.
