FIFA unveils ‘Pele’ stadium in Kigali Rwanda.
FIFA President Gianni Infantino on Wednesday inaugurated the Kigali Pele Stadium, in honor of the Brazilian football legend who died last December.
The multi-sport stadium, formerly known as the Kigali Regional Stadium, has a capacity of 22,000 people.
The inauguration of the stadium, which took place on the sidelines of the 73rd FIFA Congress in Kigali, was led by President Paul Kagame.
President Kagame thanked Mr Infantino for giving the country the opportunity to honor Mr Pele by naming the stadium after him, according to The News Times.
Mr Infantino said the move was the best way to preserve Mr Pele’s football memories.
“Pelé left us but he is still with us,” Mr Infantino said.
