Four matatu passengers die in Arthi River Crash.

Four people died instantly on Wednesday, July 21, after three of the 14 people traveling in hit a truck parked in the Athi River in Machakos County.

Police said a commercial truck was stranded on the Mombasa-Nairobi highway and the driver did not put up any signs to warn other motorists.

The incident happened directly in front of the Total petrol station in Athi River.

Three and a KCN 289P license plate, owned by MAPTRA Sacco, was traveling to Nairobi from Machakos.

It is still unknown how many were in the utility vehicle.

Athi River Police Chief Anderson Njagi confirmed the incident, saying the injured were taken to Athi River Shalom Community Hospital for treatment.

Preliminary investigations show that the driver of the matatu, who was among the injured, realized that the truck had stopped when it was too late to respond properly.
