Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya has offered to pay for the funeral of veteran football fan Isaac Juma Onyango.
Onyango died on January 26, after being axed by an attacker who stormed his house at night in Bunyenjere village, Mumias West, Kakamega County.
Governor Oparanya has promised that his county government will fund the funeral and also educate his three of his 12 children who are in high school.
Weekly funeral is scheduled for Saturday, February 12th.
Juma’s body will leave the Mumias mortuary on Friday with a procession to Bukhungu Stadium and the Mumias Compound respectively for a final tribute.
After the appearance, the body will be taken to his home for a requiem mass and the night before the funeral the next day.
Former Ketraco doctor Fernandes Council has also promised to help educate his three sons and two daughters. Barasa is aiming for the county governorship.
Juma’s death came as a shock to Kenyans, with many calling him a football fan who made sports fun.
He was a huge supporter of Harambee stars and the AFC Leopards.
His wife told the media that the deceased was shot dead because of a land dispute.
“He told me he had land issues in the area and if he died I would have to tell the authorities it was because of the land dispute.”
Police said they arrested the suspect in connection with the attack.
