NFL coach Greg Knapp dies after being struck by car.

NFL coach and Northern California resident Greg Knapp died after being hit by a car last weekend in San Ramon, according to the Sacramento State Sports Department.

The 58-year-old New York Jets assistant coach was fighting for his life at a local hospital after being hit by a car while riding his bike on Saturday afternoon.

He died at the hospital.

The NFL coach is still in critical condition after being hit by a car in San Ramon
San Ramon Police Lieutenant Tami Williams said Knapp, who was living in Danville, was walking down Doughtery Road north of Monarch Road when he was hit by a car going in the same direction.

Lieutenant Williams says the driver, 22, remained at the scene and co-operated with investigators. At the moment, officials say drugs and alcohol do not appear to be the cause.

Knapp was listed in critical condition at the John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek.

Prior to being hired by the Jets, he was an offensive coordinator for several NFL teams, including the San Francisco 49ers and then the Oakland Strikers.

In a statement issued by his family through the Jets, they say:

“Although many know him for his success as a trainer, his impact as a father and husband is even greater. We are very fortunate to have him in our lives. We truly thank everyone who has progressed. Reaching and providing support… It means the world to us.

Knapp is survived by his wife, Charlotte, and three daughters.
