How an educational officer got kshs 11milion to fund a ghost public school.

It is disheartening to note that of the limited financial resources, there have been cartels in the education sector who have been squandering money for personal gain.

It was recent when PS Julius Jwan stumbled upon a school in Eldoret that had remained operational even after being condemned in September 2019. It has emerged that an educational officer took advantage of the corruption cartels in the Ministry of Education to run a ghost public secondary school in Khwisero subcounty of Kakamega.

One Joshua Ocharo Momanyi, a clerk at Kakamega education office , created a briefcase school called Mundeku secondary school and enlisted it to get government funding through the free day secondary school disbursement schedule. He opened an account for the school which instantly received kshs11 million.

The school had ghost administrators who were able to access the accounts and withdraw money.

Surprisingly, the fake school operated for five years without being interrogated by the Ministry of education.
