IEBC clears Irungu Kang’ata for Murang’a governorship bid
Murang’a Senator Irungu Kang’ata has been approved by the IEBC to run for governor of Murang’a in the August general election.
Kang’ata was approved along with fellow candidate Winnie Mwangi, who had previously been barred from participating after the IEBC found out he had not resigned within the legal deadline.

According to the report, Ms Mwangi did not resign until February 9, in violation of the election law, which requires aspiring public officials to resign six months before the election.
He was a lecturer at the University of Nairobi for over 25 years before being selected as Kang’ata’s running mate.
Kang’ata, who was not quick to respond, blamed the incident, saying the candidates had joined forces to undermine his candidacy.
Kang’ata said his side has evidence that his deputy resigned in time and the matter will be resolved in due course.
