IEBC dispute tribunal clears Sakaja
The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) on Sunday June 19 removed UDA gubernatorial candidate Johnson Sakaja to run for governor of Nairobi in the August 9 election.
The IEBC Court of Appeals dismissed an application that challenged Sakaja’s academic qualifications – specifically the requirement of a degree.
The court ruled that the IEBC did not have the authority to investigate the authenticity of study documents submitted by applicants and that the investigation should be left to the courts and criminal investigation agencies.
