The secretary general of the struggling Jubilee party now says Azimio will not hold a meeting with the rebels chosen to represent the Kenya Kwanza team in bilateral talks.
“We will not sit to negotiate with the committee formed by people who belong to our party while sitting on the other side,” Kioni said in his statement on Wednesday.
He was referring to Eldas Member of Parliament (MP) Adan Keynan who was elected under Jubilee Party but joined Kenya Kwanza recently.
Kioni said it was a show of bad intentions by the wing led by President William Ruto before the bilateral talks.
He said the issue of elected leaders moving without resigning is big in the list of things to be discussed in the talks.
“Any MP, member of the county assembly, who has moved from Azimio to Kenya Kwanza must go back to the people and seek new powers so that they are allowed to talk and discuss with the people of Kenya Kwanza,” he added.
On Wednesday, Secretary General of the Orange Democratic Movement Edwin Sifuna voiced similar concerns, saying Keynan’s appointment was “totally bad faith and a slap in the face.”
