Kirinyaga residents ask the government for more condoms ahead of Mashujaa day.
Residents of Ngurubani sub-district in Kirinyaga County have asked the county government to provide them with more condoms ahead of Heroes’ Day on Wednesday, October 20.
Speaking to the media on Friday, October 15, residents claimed there was an influx of prostitutes in the area, warning their presence could lead to an increase in sexually transmitted infections in the county.

Several sex workers who spoke to reporters said business was at its peak in Kirinyaga ahead of Heroes’ Day celebrations in the region.
“Because Kirinyaga will be hosting the Heroes’ Day celebrations, we are asking the deputy governor to distribute condoms for safe sex,” said one sex worker.
Sex workers increasingly asked the county government to support their businesses in the same way that small and medium enterprises (SMEs) are supported.
“The number of customers is increasing at night. Ngurubani is the new Nairobi, ”said one sex worker.
Demand for more condoms by Kirinyaga County residents came after the National Commemoration Committee expressed satisfaction with the ongoing preparations for the Heroes’ Day celebrations in Mwea and Kerugoya towns in Kirinyaga County.
Led by its chairman, Dr Karanja Kibicho, the committee said preparations exceeded 90 percent in all areas intended to celebrate the occasion in Kirinyaga County.
On Wednesday, Dr Kibicho, who is also the Secretary General of the Interior, said preparations are now in the final stages and 95% of Wang’uru stadiums have been completed and decorated with renovation of Kerugoya sub-house infrastructure approximately 98% complete.
