Kisumu health workers issue one-month strike notice.

Kisumu County health workers have issued strike notice of one-month to the county government over pay delays, among other complaints.

In addition to delayed salaries, they also cite the fact that the county government failed to remove legal deductions, promoted promotions and lack of PPE.

Presented by the Secretary of the Union of Clinical Officers (Kuco) Secretary Craus Odhiambo, Secretary of the Kenya Nurses Association (KNUN) Kisumu branch Anne Owiti, Secretary of Kenya Medical Laboratory Officers Hilary Awili and the Kenya Union of Medical Technologies Anthony Aol, doctors accused the county government of withholding salaries from other health workers.

“The county government has refused to illegally pay the January and February salaries to 400 members. Two union officials have been denied salaries from December last year to date,” Odhiambo said.

The Kisumu Labor and Labor Court ordered the promotion and payment of arrears from July 2019 on June 24.

They complained that they could not access health care due to the county failing to pay NHIF deductions.

About 300 health workers who had to be promoted and re-appointed were left out.

Health workers also complained that their employer violated an earlier agreement to pay their wages on the fifth day of each month.

“The only language the county government knows is strike. They are known to disregard court decisions given to them,” he said.
