Late Mwai Kibaki public viewing to be paused temporarily.

The rally of the late former President Mwai Kibaki will be adjourned for a few minutes (10-15) on Wednesday to clear the way for the convoy of the President of the National Assembly for a special session.

The show should start at 2:30 p.m., watch interrupted around 2:15 p.m.

The interim will be to allow the Parliamentary staff to be brought into the hemicycle for a parliamentary debate in accordance with the August Parliamentary custom.

Members of the National Assembly were summoned to convene a special session to pay tribute to the late president.

The Order Paper indicates that Members of Parliament will convene to record the honor and dignity of Parliament, as is customary when the former head of state is in government.

“Following the presidential announcement of April 22, 2022 on the death of His Excellency Emilio Mwai Kibaki … the honors of this Parliament should be paid in special respects to the late retired President,” the statement reads in part.

The debate, based on those views, would focus on “Kibaki’s long and uninterrupted service to the National Assembly, his dedicated service to the Republic and his exemplary achievement for the country”.
