Leftist Gustavo Petro wins Colombia presidential election, Miguna hails him as “comrade”

Lefttist Gustavo Petro, a former member of the M-19 rebel movement who has vowed to radically change social and economic change, will be Colombia’s next president after defeating wealthy builder Rodolfo Hernandez in Sunday’s election.

Peter, the current senator and former mayor of Bogota, received 50.8% of the vote, according to National Registration figures, with Hernandez behind with 797,973 votes, up from 46.9%.

About 20 million people voted across the country.
