On April 20, 2023, Kenyan YouTuber Gertrude Njeri, alias Miss Trudy apologized to Kenyans for her behavior at Mombasa International Airport when she confronted airport authorities who prevented her from recording her content inside the premises.
In a video that can now be heard, a furious Trudy was seen shouting at the authorities, saying she had been harassed and did nothing illegal while creating content at the airport.
Kenyans criticized her for having a legitimate point of view despite being wrong, telling her that she should know the laws of the country before walking claiming that she has the right to create content in Kenya because she is a Kenyan.
In her YouTube video where she talked about several aspects of the drama, she at one point apologized for the way she handled the situation, saying that she was crazy and passionate at the time and should have been at a higher level in her behavior.
“Let me just try to let you know, let me help you understand where I come from. Maybe I took the wrong way, I know at that time I was angry, just hot, I was just angry. The reason we are upset is you know we have been doing this for four years now and it is. It’s really sad when as a content producer all you’re trying to do is promote your country and you’re being let down by the people in power.
I wish the authorities could understand that and that is why it is so sad to see young people coming to me. I feel like it was an opportunity that was taken by my enemies to come and get me, you know. I just want you to understand me. I’m sorry you had to see that side of me. At the end of the day, I’m only human. I didn’t mean to disrespect anyone. I didn’t mean to be rude to anybody, but I just felt like I was defending myself, you know. I’m sorry I lost it and I really felt like they were wrong.
I love my country very much and I would never intend to give you a bad image of my country, but we are not perfect. I am not perfect, my country is not perfect, and I just feel there are things we can improve. I hope you understand where I was coming from. I learned from this experience the do’s and don’ts. Personally, in the future, I’ll just try to do better as a person, as a content creator, you know, I hope I don’t get lost again,” Miss Trudy said.
