Mwangi wa iria names Alfayo Onyambu as his running mate in the presidential August race

A presidential candidate for the USAWA party ticket, Governor Mwangi Wa Iria, has nominated Alfayo Onyambu as his running mate for the August 9 general election.

Presidential candidates are required to nominate their fellow candidates by May 16, a deadline set by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).

Onyambu, a Kisii-backed politician, will run for a joint Iria presidential ticket and is expected to cross various parts of the country in the party’s election campaign.

He ran for the Kisii senate seat in the 2017 general election under the Jubilee party, but was unsuccessful.

The Governor of Murang’a has claimed that he will be in the running for the presidency in the 2022 general election.

Wa Iria said he was not prepared to give up on his bid for the top post, saying he was determined to protect the interests of the people of Mount Kenya.

The presidential candidate, who gave prominence to the coalition of the United Nations Framework for Kenya First, said he would strengthen the Mount Kenya region behind him.

The double governor also said the constituency had enough votes to pressure any leader to become president in the August 9 election.
