Naivas supermarket has opened a new branch in Githurai 44 with the aim of strengthening its position as the country’s leading retailer.
The Githurai Center opened today will be on Kamiti Road, targeting hundreds of buyers in the area.
The new store, located in the area currently served by the Khetias supermarket, will be the retailer’s branch in 74 countries and the fifth store in the Thika Road area.
The Naivas expansion comes at a time when foreign competitors like Carrefour and QuickMart have expanded the opening of new branches.
“The new store is located in a residential area along Kamiti Road and is 28,000 square feet long,” said Willy Kimani, Naivas Business Director.
In recent months, the leading retailer has put in place a sharp expansion plan, taking up the main space left vacant by competing competitors.
The seller has received financial support to promote growth after signing an agreement last year with the Private Equity Fund (PE) Amethis Finance to sell 30% of the shares.
Naivas also plans to open a branch in Kisumu at the Lions Club Hall near United Mall targeting hundreds of buyers across the region.
The Kisumu branch comes months after Tuskys cut off operations in the region due to declining cash flow.
