The NBA has opened its African headquarters in Johannesburg in 2010and a history of decades in Africa . The League, African Basketball ,was launched in May.
“We have ambitious plans for President Obama to join our efforts is to realize that through sports, Africa can take its place in the world, and for NBA growth in Africa” said general manager of NBA Africa, Victor. Williams.
The reason for Former US President Barack Obama joining the NBA Africa is as a strategic ally, advancing social responsibility across the continent, the NBA announced on Tuesday.
He will support programs and partnerships hence providing greater gender equality and economic inclusion.
NBA Africa expands understanding of the NBA market by conducting league activities across Africa and engaging with fans across the continent while developing the game, as well as social responsibility initiatives.
“The NBA has always been America’s greatest ambassador, using the game to create deep relationships around the world, and in Africa, basketball has the potential to promote opportunity, prosperity, equality and empowerment across the continent.” Obama said in a report.
“By investing in society, promoting gender equality and promoting love for basketball, I believe the NBA Africa can make a difference for many young Africans.
“I am impressed with the league’s commitment to Africa, as well as the leadership shown by many African players who want to give back to their countries and communities.
“This is why I look forward to a partnership that benefits the youth of many countries and am so proud to join the NBA Africa team .”
Former NBA stars Grant Hill, Junior Bridgeman, Luol Deng, Ian Mahinmi, Dikembe Mutombo and Joakim Noah are among other NBA Africa investors.
“We are honored that President Obama has been a strategic ally of the NBA Africa and will support our great efforts to promote basketball,” said NBA Commissioner Adam Silver.
“Apart from his well-shown love of basketball, President Obama is a firm believer in Africa’s potential and the great growth opportunities that exist through the game. NBA Africa will benefit greatly from his dedication.”
