Olympian Agnes Tirop is dead, body found with burns.

Kenya’s 5,000-meter representative at the Tokyo Olympics, Agnes Tirop, has died.

Tirop was found dead on Wednesday October 13 at her home in Iten, Elgeyo Marakwet County.

According to reports, she had burns in her abdomen.

Police and an investigation team from Iten police station are currently at the scene.

Unconfirmed reports indicate that the atrocity was committed by her ex-husband.

Kenyan athletes (AK) through President Jackson Tuwei immediately expressed shock after the tragic news was confirmed, saying Kenya had lost a gem in the game.

“AK is shocked to hear of the early death of world bronze medalist Agnes Tirop. She was found dead at their home in Iten after being stabbed by her husband. We are still working to find out more about her disappearance.

“Kenya lost a jewel that was one of the fastest growing athletic giants on the international stage, thanks to its impressive performances on the track,” AK said.

Last month Tirop broke the women’s only record in the women’s 10km race at the Record Road race in Germany, and at 30:01.

Last week he finished an impressive second, spending 30:20 at the Valencia Half Marathon.

Tirop’s embellished CV also includes the name of the whole country in 2015 where he wrote history as the second youngest winner of this category.

He also won the 2014 African Cross Country Championships in Kampala, Uganda, as well as the 2013 World Youth Cross Country Championships in Bydgoszcz, Poland.
