Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga welcomed the orphans to his home in Kisumu for Christmas.

Speaking to reporters at the event, Raila said it was important for Kenyans to emulate the Christmas spirit that it gives and make those who need to feel part of the community.

Raila, dressed in a Santa Claus costume, mingled with the children invited to the party and shared a gift with them while singing and playing games.

The ODM chief, on Friday, December 24, 2021, called on Kenyans to remember vulnerable children during this festive season and to donate their time and other resources to help them.

“They are orphans and vulnerable and we want them to feel happy and part of society, this is a charitable thing and it is happening all over the world.

“It is also a day when we commemorate the birth of Jesus Christ and the life of Jesus Christ is a life of charity, sacrifice, giving and helping the needy,” said the ODM chief.

Later, Raila will attend a Christmas street party organized by the Kisumu County government led by Governor Anyang ‘Nyong’o.

Reports have suggested that Raila will light a Christmas tree in Kisumu with Governor Nyong’o ‘.

Later, the county government plans to share food with those in need who will attend the event on Friday evening, December 24.

However, potential residents will be required to purchase food and drink from authorized vendors for sale during the event.

Residents will also have to pay Ksh 200 to reach the venue which has been set aside for group concerts.

The county government announced it had closed three streets in Kisumu for two days while holding Christmas celebrations in the streets.
