Six police officers linked to the death of two Embu brothers were arrested on Monday evening and transferred to Nairobi.
The suspects will be arraigned on Tuesday, Embu County Deputy County Commissioner Jeremiah Tumo told Nation.Africa.
Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Noordin Haji ordered the immediate arrest and indictment of Nairobi by all police officers involved in the deaths of two brothers in Kianjokoma, Embu County on Monday,.
Police had already been suspended after an investigation into the deaths of Benson Njiru, 22, and Emmanuel Mutura, 19, was concluded. The two were found dead earlier this month after being arrested by police during peak hours.
An order to Inspector General of Police Hillary Mutyambai was issued by DPP Haji in a statement on Monday.
He said the move would “avoid interference with the evidence and / or intimidation of witnesses” while the Independent Police Oversight Authority (Ipoa) investigates the matter.
“For this reason and due to the urgency of this matter, we look forward to receiving the results of all investigations into this matter before the end of business today,” he said.
The DPP said its instructions were based on a preliminary investigation file from the Interior Unit (IAU).
