National police issued a statement Thursday on allegations of kidnapping and torture of blogger Dennis Itumbi.
Spokesman Bruno Shioso said Itumbi’s abduction was reported at Thindigua police station at 3:40 p.m.
He says the police department has now opened an investigation into the allegations and identified the circumstances of his abduction.
In a statement to the media, the spokesman further urged the public to stop speculating on the matter and be patient while the investigation continues.
“We also call on citizens who may have information about the incident to volunteer and report to any police station or through our support numbers 999.112 or 0800 722 203,” read a statement from police spokesman Bruno Shiso. .
Reports of Dennis Itumbi’s alleged kidnapping were released on social media Thursday night.
There have also been many rumors that Itumbi’s kidnapping allegations were politically motivated.
His political allies claim he was abducted and tortured for voting in favor of Vice President William Ruto.
The blogger is currently being treated at a Nairobi hospital where friends and family have visited him.
