Raila: Demolish strategic Fuel reserve

Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga yesterday proposed the demolition of a strategic oil reserve from the port of Mombasa to the rest of the country to protect Kenyans in times of crisis.

He said there was an urgent need to build strategic reserves in areas that were not at risk of interference in any way so that the country would not be shocked.

“Going forward, there is a need for this country to address the issue of strategic reserves,” he said in Nairobi, addressing oil industry officials.

Raila spoke even when it was discovered that there was enough oil to keep the country going for about two months.

Data from the Kenya Pipeline Company (KPC) shows that there are enough petroleum products in stocks and high seas waiting to be unloaded, all with a total capacity of 780 million liters.
