Raphael Varane was officially unveiled as a Manchester United player on Saturday afternoon and the heavily decorated defender wasted no time in getting a job at Carrington.

The completion of his transfer from Real Madrid was announced when the 28-year-old walked confidently to Old Trafford, in front of 75,000 fans, holding his new shirt number 19 in the air.

It was a once-in-a-lifetime moment that only added to the electric atmosphere inside our beloved Dreams venue and no doubt sparked a thrilling 5-1 victory over rivals Leeds United.

After such a good time, you will forgive Varane for taking the time to relax and prepare for a great week with his fellow United players, but that is not the style of a famous winner.

A sign of his famous commitment and thirst for success, Raphael is already working hard at the club’s training ground ahead of his Premier League debut against Southampton next Sunday.
At the Carrington Gymnasium, Varane marked the recording of personal messages for fans who cheered him on Saturday, and those around the world who had already sent thousands of support messages.

“Hello everyone, I’m so glad to be here,” says Varane.

“Thank you for the vibe at Old Trafford – thank you very much. I am very happy to be here and I am ready to work hard.

In an official statement announcing his transfer, Raphael explained that he would “give everything” to add a long history of success at the highest level.

“Manchester United is one of the most famous football clubs in the world and the opportunity to come here and play in the Premier League is something I could not refuse.

“There is so much more I want to accomplish in my career and I know that I am joining a team full of the best players who will all have the same determination to win games and trophies.

“After talking to the manager I see what progress has been made in the last few seasons and now I am joining a team that is ready to play at a high level.

“I want to have an impact here and I will give my best to be part of the good history of this club.”
