Reports of a phone call from President Uhuru Kenyatta to Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka have surfaced. It is alleged that the call changed Kalonzo’s views on the interview of the candidate for the United One One Kenya Resolution.
Insiders say the president pushed the Wiper leader to attend the talks in order to strengthen his support and loyalty to the Declaration coalition.
During the call, Uhuru reportedly informed Kalonzo that if he did not show up, his chances of being nominated as Raila Odinga’s running mate would be slim.
Kalonzo, on the other hand, reportedly tested his options after being called and what he would have lost by not appearing in an interview. This, according to the report, forced him to face the nomination board on Tuesday, May 10.
When asked about his flexibility to attend the interview and drop off his chat phones, Kalonzo however said he had made a deliberate decision to attend the interview to deny Raila the excuse not to choose his running mate.
The selection panel, led by veteran politician Noah Wekesa, will present the results of the interview to the leaders of the Declaration coalition – President Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga.
