Ruto must go: Raila issues way forward on mass action.

Raila the leader of Azimio la Umoja Kenya Declaration issued the order after t 14 days deadline for the president was completed.

Among Raila’s demands is for Ruto to speed up the opening of the 2022 presidential elections and deal with the high cost of living.

“We are now announcing the start of a big move and announcing that Ruto must leave,” Raila Odinga said.

At the launch of the Movement for Democracy (MDD), Raila claimed that President William Ruto ignored his call to reduce the price of goods, open IEBC servers and include the Declaration of Unity in the recruitment of IEBC Commissioners.

“Wherever we are across the country, we will all meet in Nairobi for peaceful protests and civil disobedience,” Raila noted.

The leader of the Unity Declaration called on those who like to take big steps to prepare and take action against the Kenyan First government.

“On March 20, 2023, we have a fateful date, and we are calling on all of you to come to Nairobi where we will hold a big protest,” Raila said.

Raila explained his reasons for wanting the Ruto government to take strict action:

  1. High cost of living in Kenya

He claimed that President Ruto’s government oversaw what he said was the blatant looting of public property and the wrongful removal of subsidies that protect Kenyans from high prices.

“To lower the cost of living and restore the destiny of our people, Ruto must go,” Raila said.

  1. Double taxation

Raila pointed out that the government of Kenya Kwanza was charging double taxes which is affecting many businesses, including those owned by small businesses.

  1. Importation of GMOs

The Azimio La Umoja leader said President Ruto’s decision to import genetically modified (GMO) foods such as maize was harmful to Kenyan farmers and businessmen.

  1. Hiring IEBC Commissioners

Raila said the Ruto administration should have stopped the ongoing process of appointing new commissioners of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).

“The IEBC selection committee is a puppet of Ruto, and we have no faith in what they are doing,” Raila said.

  1. Harassment of four Cherera commissioners

The leader of the ODM party has defended the four commissioners of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) who left power controversially after the August 2022 general election.

The so-called Cherera Four, Vice President Juliana Cherera, Francis Mathenge, Irene Masit and Justus Nyang’aya, were forced to leave the IEBC after President Ruto initiated their withdrawal.

In a press conference held at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Foundation, Azimio executives claimed that Kenya’s First government could no longer be tolerated.
