Seven die in a road accident at Kikopey

Seven people have died and eight others have been injured following a fatal road accident at Kikopey Mall on the Nairobi-Nakuru highway.

Nakuru Police Commander Peter Mwanzo said the accident, which happened at around four in the morning, involved two tricycles with 14 passengers and a truck.

At first he said the trailer landed on the ramp, blocking a busy stretch of road.

As a result, one tricycle going uphill hit the rear of the trailer before the other followed.

“The two threes that were completely closed and following each other collided behind the damaged trailer, killing five people on the spot,” he said.

Among the dead are two adult men, a woman, a teenage girl and a two-year-old girl.

The injured were rushed to different hospitals in Gilgil and Nakuru.

“Dozens of others were seriously injured and taken to various hospitals while the remains were taken to the Gilgil Police Station,” he said.
