Former Nairobi Governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko has joined the Mombasa governorship race.
The Wiper Democratic Movement submitted Sonko’s name to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) among those allowed to run for office.
The former Nairobi County boss will face Kisauni MP Ali Mbogo, who is also vying for a Wiper ticket.
The winner will compete against former Mombasa senator Hassan Omar, who received a direct UDA ticket.
The ODM ticket is a battle between Mvita MP Abdulswamad Sharif Nassir and Mombasa billionaire Suleiman Shabal.
