Nairobi County Assembly Speaker Benson Mutura has been arrested.
Mutura was taken from his city headquarters office on Wednesday afternoon, April 20, and taken to the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) headquarters on Kiambu Road for questioning.
Although the reason for his arrest has not been made public, reports indicate that DCI agents raided his office and arrested him.
Pictures of him in handcuffs surfaced a few minutes later.
Speaking to reporters at his office on Wednesday morning, Mutura said police tried to arrest him in his office this morning.
He cited the attempt to arrest the witches because he said he would support Vice President William Ruto.
“This morning, while I was in the office, an officer came to arrest me without a call or reason. What they did was a gross violation of the Nairobi County Permanent Code,” he said.
He said he was handcuffed immediately after protesting the officers’ decision.
“I am ready to obey the call. I have been diligent in what I did,” he said.
