State officers to receive a salary increment in the 2023/2024 financial year
Members of County Assemblies (MCAs) will be among the main beneficiaries of a salary increase for the 2023/2024 financial year if the leaked notes from the secret meeting are implemented.
According to the estimate obtained by Sambazanews, the speakers of the County Assembly will be the biggest beneficiaries of the estimated increase of Ksh. wages and salaries (SRC).
Speaking to the media, a CBC representative revealed that the salary increase will affect all government employees from the 2023/2024 financial year.
Lecturers in the county currently earn a total salary of Ksh 525,525 every month which is expected to be adjusted to Ksh 562,312 in the financial year 2023/2024.
According to the proposed salary structure for Government Officers in the County Assembly, the County Speakers will get back a whopping Kshs 601,674 for the next financial year 2024/2025.
While the speakers of the county assembly are expected to see their salaries increase significantly, other members of the county assembly will have a slightly lower salary increase.
MCAs will receive Ksh 10,000 per year as a result of the SRC’s proposal despite earlier demands for their salaries to be increased to higher levels.
Currently, the MCA receives a total salary of Ksh 144,375 and is expected to reach Ksh 154,481 and Ksh 164,588 in the financial years 2023/2024 and 2024/2025 respectively.
There is also a big difference between the president of the departmental parliament and his deputy in terms of pay.
In the proposal, the deputy president will receive Ksh 247,943 every month while the lecturer will be paid Ksh 601,674.
On the other hand, the SRC will increase the salary of the majority and minority leaders from Ksh 216,563 to Ksh 231,722 in the financial year 2023/2024 and the amount will increase to Ksh 204,717 in the financial year 2024/2025.
Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke, an SRC representative confirmed that the commission was preparing salary increases for MCAs as well as other government employees, but remained mum on the actual amount.
A senior Commission source also claimed that the estimate will be made public in June 2023.
“Yes, it is true that there will be a salary increase but not only for MCAs but for all public employees,” he told Kenyans.co.ke.
How much of an increase, he said: ‘I can’t say right now. The SRC will have journalists in June 2023 to inform Kenyans about the salary increase.
