Situation in Afghanistan
After 20 years of existence on August 31, American troops withdrew from Afghanistan. According to US President Joe Biden, the United States did what it set out to do: remove the al-Qaeda terrorist group responsible for the 9/11 attacks and prevent Afghanistan from becoming a terrorist base.
His words do not match the facts. According to a US intelligence report, at least 20 small terrorist groups are operating in Afghanistan, having been extremist in the last 20 years because of foreign presence. Various reports indicate that al Qaeda terrorists are joining the Taliban and that the Islamic State will establish a presence in Afghanistan.
Earlier, the same US report said Kabul would collapse within six months, but the US president withheld the news. He tried to convince the public that such an option had not existed before Afghanistan and named thousands of troops and equipment in the Asian country. Despite Joe Biden’s “hopes”, the Taliban controlled almost the entire country within a month and entered Kabul. Former President Ashraf Ghani has fled the country.
At present, there is only one area in Afghanistan that has not been conquered by the Taliban, and that is the province of Panjshir. Anti-Taliban forces and Afghan troops stationed themselves there. The anti-Taliban coalition is led by Ahmad Massoud.
