The family of a man who was mauled by a hyena four years ago are now free to bury his remains.

Joseph Njuguna’s family received a green light from the government after a positive result of DNA tests.

This is a relief to a family living with a corpse hidden in a wooden coffin in Komo village in Thika, Kiambu County.

The long wait for the results of samples taken from the remains of their loved ones has left the family devastated.

Njuguna’s skull was kept by a state chemist.

Njuguna’s brother-in-law Agnes Waithera said she was visited by inspectors from DCI headquarters on Monday. They said the results of DNA tests are known and the family can proceed with funeral arrangements.

Ms Waithera said detectives had asked the family to take the remaining body parts to the General Kago mortuary in Thika today for autopsy.
