Nakuru Chief Justice Elizabeth Usui said yesterday the court would decide whether the Kanu MP would be released on bail tomorrow.

“The court has received several inquiries and needs time to prepare a decision. The suspect must remain in custody until September 16, ”the court ruled.

Kamket has pleaded not guilty to the charge of sedition in contravention of Section 77 (1) of the Criminal Procedure Code after his lawyers opposed the prosecution’s request for 14 days to complete their investigation.

Yesterday, the MP denied that on July 16, 2021, in Amaya, Tiaty State, Baringo County, during a rally, he uttered words that were considered to promote hatred between the various’ Ol-Moran communities.

Kamket, however, said he was in Gilgil, Nakuru County, on that date.

His lawyers Kipkoech Ng’etich, Clement Koigi and Wanjiku Wamae asked the court to release the deputy on bail.

Kipkoech said his client attended court sessions when needed and there was no risk of escape.

He said the allegations against his client “are true and show that security personnel have failed in their duties.

The lawyer again asked the court to order the Inspector General of Police to increase Kamket’s security, saying he lived in fear.

“She’s a reasonable fear that she’s been told.”
