Former President Donald Trump claimed Monday that he could resolve the war in Ukraine “within 24 hours” after holding peace talks, but declined to say how.
Trump, 76, made the comments in an interview with Fox News host Sean Hannity that aired Monday night. The former president said that if the war does not end by the end of the 2024 presidential election and he is re-elected to the White House, “within a day” he will have a peace agreement.
Trump said that talks between him, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Russian President Vladimir Putin would be “easy”.
“If it’s not resolved, I’ll resolve it within 24 hours with Zelensky and Putin, and there’s a very easy conversation to have, but I don’t want to tell you what it is because I can’t use it. The conversation,” Trump vowed, without giving much indication of what his negotiating strategy would be.
“But there is a very easy conversation to have. I will resolve it in one day, peace between them,” he insisted.
Trump said his next talks would not take place for “a year and a half”, saying “it’s a long time” and noting that the war could get worse in the meantime.
“If this issue isn’t resolved by election time – which is possible, it won’t be, and it’s also possible that we’ll be in World War III with these idiots doing what they’re doing – you could end up with a nuclear world war that would make World War II and War World War II should look like rags,” Trump warned.
The former commander-in-chief also claimed, as he has done many times, that he “gets along very well with Putin” and that Russia’s invasion of Ukraine would not have happened if it had not happened. – was elected president 2020. .
