Two lovers die while celebrating Easter after being washed away by water currents.
In a tragic accident, two lovers were washed away in River Nyamindi flowing in Kirinyanga’s Gichungu sub county yesterday.
As per the eyewitness’s account , the incident took place while the love birds were taking selfies by the river bank.
The two had chosen the spot to celebrate and commemorate the Easter holiday by taking photos in the serene environment by the river.
They were warned by the locals about the swelling water levels of the seasonal river occasioned by the heavy rains but they did not heed the warning.
Moments later after ignoring the warning issued they were swallowed by the swift but strong currents of the flooding water.
The area DCI boss Millicent Ochuka confirmed the incident and cautioned the residents against going near the river since the water levels are expected to increase following the incessant downpour of rain.
The search to recover the bodies of the two is still ongoing but with many difficulties because of the dangerous levels at which the river is flowing. The divers have appealed to the dog unit to come to their rescue.
